We were delighted to host a delegation from the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) during their recent visit to South Korea. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to discuss our shared commitment to advancing accountability for religious freedom violations and broader human rights violations in North Korea.
At Korea Future, we have long been dedicated to documenting and addressing the serious violations of religious freedom in North Korea. Since the publication of our inaugural report on these violations in 2020, we have continued to undertake rigorous investigations into the persecution faced by religious communities, particularly Shamans and Christians. We were pleased to share these critical findings and insights with the USCIRF delegation.
Of particular note in our discussions were the USCIRF hearing at which we delivered evidence and the two comprehensive reports we authored for USCIRF, which detail the systematic and organised suppression of religious freedom by the Workers’ Party of Korea. These reports starkly illuminate the brutal reality endured by those who dare to practice their faith under a regime that allows no deviation from its official ideology.
