Impact
Korea Future's documentation was crucial in securing these sanctions. By exposing comprehensive and detailed evidence of severe human rights violations, including sexual violence, we constructed a compelling case file and legal argument that directly linked North Korea’s Minister of State Security, Ri Chang Dae, and the Onsong County Ministry of State Security Detention Centre in North Hamgyong Province to these violations.
The EU’s decision to impose sanctions is a direct response to the weight of this evidence, specifically targeting those responsible for orchestrating and overseeing these grave violations. With measures such as asset freezes and travel bans, these sanctions deliver a clear and forceful message to North Korea: the international community will not stand by in the face of such egregious violations, and those who perpetrate them will be held accountable.
