North Korean Prison Database

We document human rights violations in the prison system to uncover the truth, identify perpetrators, and hold them accountable

The problem

The North Korean prison system is the key mechanism used to oppress citizens identified as political threats, thereby making it the central site for widespread and systematic human rights violations. Despite this, there had been no dedicated investigation into the prison system, nor had there been a targeted approach to hold perpetrators accountable.

Our response

The North Korean Prison Database serves as a dedicated platform designed to investigate North Korea's prison system. It collects comprehensive and credible data on violations, identifies perpetrators, and compiles detailed profiles of detention facilities. This platform provides essential resources for global accountability efforts.
