Korea Future cited in US Department of State’s 2020 Report on International Religious Freedom

The Department of State’s 2020 Report on International Religious Freedom has drawn on and cited many areas of our work on religious freedom violations in North Korea, including our work on government practices—namely torture, antireligious education, sexual violence, and intensified campaigns against shamanism.

The annual Report to Congress on International Religious Freedom describes the status of religious freedom in every country. The report covers government policies violating religious belief and practices of groups, religious denominations and individuals, and United States policies to promote religious freedom around the world. The Department of State submits the reports in accordance with the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. We thank the Office of International Religious Freedom for its monitoring of religiously motivated discrimination worldwide, including in North Korea.
